Lily Bee Finds

Good morning, everyone! Melissa here with a fun color challenge!

Anna-Maria has dreamed up a fun, beachy palette for us this week with a combination of pale blue, pale pink, cyan, mint, and cream. When Anna sent this color palette over to me, I immediately went digging through my Lily Bee stash and found that I needed to pull some pages from the "archives" of older Lily Bee lines to get that lovely mint shade involved. One of the things I really love about Lily Bee collections is how the classic patterns of all the lines work so well together. My layout below is a combination of three generations of Lily Bee paper- there's a bit of the new Persnickety collection, a little something from all four of the collections released at Winter 2012 CHA, and even two lines released prior to that- Head over Heels and Memorandum.

I'm loving the simple take on her sketch, yet, she offers the ability to include layers, which is always fun! Let's take a look at what Michi came up with using her sketch!

Her darling page featuring her son, (who always has the best expressions) is simply delightful! We love how she used patterned paper, Index Journaling Cards as well as several pieces from our Bag of Bits to really bring your eye in toward her adorable photo.

Here's a detailed image of her intricate layers. 

How fun that she created the center to her little embellishment out of a button piece from our Bag of Bits. Just so sweet. And her beautiful use of white spray mist in the center of her page, really lightens up her background paper, so that you eye is drawn inwards towards the center of her layout. Beautiful work, Michi!

Happy Friday!  Wow, it's been crazy here for the last two months with designing new lines and getting ready for and attending CHA.  The dust has settled and we will start shipping our 3 New Lines around August 20th so be sure to make sure your store will be carrying them.

Jaime used one of our latest collections, Autumn Spice to create this absolutely stunning page. 

Here's a tip from Jaime:

Shapes are really popular in scrapbooking - especially hexagons.  They can seem challenging when you are staring at an entire sheet of a particular design and shape - so, break them down and spread them out! 

I cut the shapes out and then attached using foam pop dots.  It's an easy way to use the popular shapes and patterns without getting overwhelmed by them.  -Jaime Warren

Cards Wednesday with Patricia + Summer

Hello, Lily Bee fans. Patricia here today to share one of my favorite ways of adding a little extra detail to cards.  Stitching...both machine stitching for texture and hand stitching for more of a handmade look. 

The colors and the patterns of the Handmade collection were the inspiration of adding the “X” stitches in the corners and stitching around the heart.  With the zigzag and quilt patterns of the collection, it was a perfect compliment for hand stitching, giving it a very handmade, whimsical look.

For the second card, I hand stitched around one of the bits from the collection to make it stand out more.  The pop of red with the yellow gives the cool pink and green some warmth, with more of a clean and elegant look.

I’m excited to have Summer joining me today.  Take a look at how she added machine stitching to add texture to her cards. I just love that peek through the pattern paper to show the quilted paper with the sentiment.

By adding several rows of stitching, Summer created lots of texture for the base and focus point for her card. A beautiful way to show off the pattern papers from the Persnickety line.

Tuesday Challenge with Cindy + Melissa Mann + Maisa

Happy Tuesday! I hope you have had a great start of the week while enjoying your summer! Cindy Liebel here to share this weeks challenge with our Lily Bee fans. Joining me on the fun is Melissa Mann and we both have layouts that will inspire you to create for this challenge.

My all time favorite Lily Bee product is the journaling index cards. They are so fun and easy to use on any project design, the possibilities are endless.

  
My take on the challenge was pretty simple. I highlighted a small accent photo by framing it within the design of the journaling index cards. I just used my xact-o knife to create the opening.
  
I also used other journaling index cards as simple accents that anchored the main photo and added adjectives that described a flower using negative space to anchor the main page design.
  

Melissa Mann’s layout is stunning. Melissa took the challenge to a whole new level buy creating pockets to hold her photos, journaling and bits of tag accents.
 
I love that her layouts gives you a little peek wanting to see more.  
The tone-on-tone texture and geometric shapes adds a subtle touch to her page design. The top section Melissa’s page adds a burst of color using a mix of patterns from the triangle cardstock stickers.
 

Maisa also joined us on our challenge and this is what she came up with
I love how she layered up all of her journaling cards to create her photo vignette. Just beautiful!

Monday Sketch Challenge with Ursula + Julia

Hi Lily Bee fans! Today is the first day in our brand new blog schedule! Each day of the week will bring you inspiring projects to gain inspiration as well as two challenges each week! Participation in these challenges will enter you into two monthly prize pools for awesome Lily Bee products! All you have to do is upload your challenge into our Lily Bee Flickr pool fournd here (link also found on the right) to be considered for that month. Hola Lily Bee friends, from sunny Arizona.  It’s Ursula here today to bring you a fun and inspiring sketch.

Personally, I find I prefer as sketch that is relatively simple and allows me to build outward.  I tend to feel a little boxed in if there are lots and lots of details included in a sketch.  Somehow, I simply ‘have’ to follow the rules which means everything in the sketch has to also be on my layout.

  Since I don’t work well that way, I decided to create a fairly simple sketch to which lots of details could be added if the user so desires.

Take a look, take the challenge and show us how you’d interpret this sketch. As you can see, there is lots of room to breath on this page design.  However, feel free to fill it up if that is what will make your heart sing.

To give you a little jump start on the ideas, take a look at how I interpreted the sketch.

  I turned the design a bit and that added some additional detail that gives my page a more freeform feel than the original sketch might cause you to think of.

 Julia Stainton also joined me with her multi-photo take on the sketch.  I love how she used 2 photo strips to mimic the shape of the photo placed on the sketch but still making it her own.  She’s also turned the sketch and dropped the border strips down into the body of her project.

  And that butterfly cut-out is simply perfect.  I love the way she inked the edges to give a very distinctive line to the butterfly.

Index Journaling Cards Mini Album with Danielle

Hi Lily Bee fans! It's Danielle here today. I have been totally in love with these journaling cards since the day I received them and just can't stop using them on projects! I love the patterns and pretty designs on each one. Today I decided to use them to make little pockets and then turn the pockets into a mini album of some of our favorite pictures of our Maine trip this month. I cut pieces of vellum for the pages and then stitched the journaling cards on the bottoms as pockets to hold photos!

On the cover, I used some various pieces from all the lines Bag of Bits and stitched them together to create a little hanging banner, which dresses up the front cover just a "bit"! (No pun intended- ha.)

You can also add the photo over the top of the journaling cards and journal next to the photo like I did on this page. I decorated very simply with the Victoria Park Cardstock Sticker banners.

What is so fun about the journaling cards is that they mix and match so effortlessly when put together, even though they are from all of the different Lily Bee lines! I used one to make the pocket here and another one to tuck inside behind the photo. 

I really love the numbered journaling cards from the Handmade line! Perfect for an age, a number of people in the photo, etc. So many uses for them.

Don't forget that pockets can be used to hold memorabilia also, tickets, stubs, letters, etc!

I hope this inspired you to try something new today. This album only took me about an hour to finish! My fastest one yet, but I hope to add many more pages!

Guest Designer | July | Jaime Warren

Hi Lily Bee fans! We're still at CHA, but we wanted to keep the momentum going with even more projects using our NEW products! We also wanted to introduce one of many new changes to our blog schedule. Each month we'll have one Guest Designer join us here at Lily Bee Design, bringing even more inspiration and ideas to share with you on how to use our amazing products. Each Thursday we'll be bringing you at least one project from our guest and they will provide you with ideas, tips and tricks to help you use your Lily Bee products to their full potential!

Without further aideu, I introduce you to our July Guest Designer, Jaime Warren!

Here's a little about Jaime:

I have always had a love for photography and creating. Being able to combine the two has been a dream come true! My love for photography started at a young age and became a passion of mine as a teenager. I was introduced to scrapbooking by a friend and from that moment I was hooked. Scrapbooking is, for me, a creative outlet. I am able to share my love for my children, husband and photography through my pages. I have been fortunate enough to have been a Memory Makers Master as well as design for several different manufacturers over the years - something I never could have dreamed was possible for me!

 

Jaime's Tips: One of my favorite things to do with patterned paper is to cut it up and use it as an embellishment - especially when the patterns are things like flowers, doilies, etc.  The Persnickity Prim paper was perfect for fussy cutting and embellishing with!  I simply cut it out and attached it with a foam pop dot for a bit of dimension.  I also cut up a few of the Persnickity Mixed Stickers and used the smaller parts of the stickers as my embellishments.  It really makes product go a long way when you can use one item in a variety of ways!   I used my Silhouette for my title work (and I love all of the new Chevron patterns Lily Bee has come out with for this line!!!  Perfect for using in the Silhouette!)

CHA | Summer 2012 Booth Set Up

Hi Lily Bee fans! Today is the start of the CHA Summer 2012 trade show in Chicago and we are all set up for the fun! 

We thought you'd like to see some of the behind-the-scenes set up that goes into putting a CHA booth up. Because there's a lot of work involved in making the end result look pretty like you see above. 

We're given a blank open space to start with, so the first thing we have to do is put down our flooring.

Next, up go the walls. And wait, who's that? Well, it's our neighbor and friend from Jillibean Soup, Jill herself! Hi, Jill!

Once the walls are up, then we have to make it pretty, so up goes the wainscoating. That's Kristen's brother, being a super helper!

And of course, lastly, up goes all the pretty stuff.

We'll have more fun photos to share over the next couple days, but we wanted to give you a first-hand look at our booth from our vantage point! We hope you like what you see, and if you are at the show, make sure to come see us in booth #1843! We'd love to see you!

CHA Preview Event | Day 8

I am loving all of the layers in her page, and her use of the numbers that are expertly placed. Those sure are fun!.

CHA Preview Event | Day 7

Happy Tuesday, Lily Bee fans! Welcome to Day 7 of our Summer CHA Preview Event! You've seen how we've unveiled Persnickety, and Autumn Spice over the last six days, now it's time to give you some sneaks at our final collection being debuted at CHA next week!
 Let' me introduce you to Christmas Cheer!

Design Team member, Ursula Schneider took on creating some darling projects using Christmas Cheer, and today we're going to show you her cards using this festive collection. 

I'm loving how she used vellum on her first card, then embellishing with all of her Lily Bee Stickers and papers. And just look at that darling tree she created with the banner stickers on the right, just too cute!

 

This second card is a fun take on creating with holiday prioducts but not necessarily creating a Christmas card in the traditional sense. It certainly feels wintery and festive, yet, it could be used for many purposes.
