Focus on Stamps: Cardmaking

Hello! Today we have a few cards to share with different ways to use the Lily Bee stamps to create fall cards.

   

First off, Andrea Budjack has a beautiful fall card to share with you. Can you guess what the pumpkin is made out of?

Andrea says, "It is always fun to create embellishments with clear stamps. On this card, I created the pumpkin using the doily circle stamp from the Persnickety collection as well as the leaves. Simply stamp this image three separate times onto cardstock and cut out. Layer and adhere two of the stamped pieces behind the center piece to create the pumpkin. Stamp two more of this image onto cardstock using green ink for the leaves. Handcut two leaves, fold in half and adhere to pumpkin. Create a stem by cutting from brown paper (used All Spice paper) and adhere to backside of pumpkin.  Stamp heart from Autumn Spice collection, trimmed and added to pumpkin."

Supplies: Autumn Spice (Vanilla - paper, All Spice - paper, Clove - paper, Clear Stamps), Christmas Cheer (Clear Stamps), Persnickety (Clear Stamps, Index Journal Card)

On my card, I used the Autumn Spice Clear Stamp set and stamped the circles in Melon Berry Ink, then the hearts in Canyon Clay ink over the top. I also stamped the circle, heart and "family" from this set and popped it up for dimension. The "so grateful" is cut with the Silhouette Cameo machine with the Autumn Spice papers.

A little handstitching finishes off the stamped heart with another touch of dimension. The papers are so easy to mix and match, love them!

Focus on Stamps: Challenge - Borders

All week this week we are focusing on using Lily Bee Designs amazing stamps!  I couldn't be more impressed with the way these stamps create a clear, crisp image.  

     

 

Ursula here with you to issue today's specific challenge.......create borders using stamps!  Here are some examples to get your creative juices flowing.

Heather Leopard joined me for today's challenge.  She created two adorable cards using our stamps.

Heather says 'For the We Are Family card I used the circle stamp from the Autumn Spice stamp set. I was going for the tone on tone look so I selected papers with a single color pattern and then stamped the circles in the same color. You can cut them our by hand but I found the circles to be the same size as my 1" circle punch so I saved a lot of time cutting them out.'

'I added some red colored string around the journaling card and then placed it over coordinating layers. I topped it off by stamping the heart on the red paper and popping it over the journal card.'

For the Happy when skies are grey card Heather stamped the chevron and dot with white pigment ink over the dark blue pattern paper. 

She cut the word "HAPPY" with her CAMEO. Heather completed the sentiment, coloring the white alphas with an orange and grey marker, then added some fussy cut popped up clouds to add dimension.

Finally, here is my layout using stamps as a border.  I've been in love with the Autumn Spice stamp set since I first laid eyes on it. All those wonderful words leave me with sooo many options.  

Perhaps one of my favorite things about stamps is that you can create whatever mood you desire by choosing our colors accordingly.  Rainbows mean happiness and promise in my mind and I was able to convey that through the use of those colors in my stamping.

Focus on Stamps | Layouts

Happy Monday crafters Summer here with my fellow designers Lisa and Nicole with this week's Lily Bee focus on: STAMPS. We thought it would be fun to show off how to incorporate more than one stamp set on each of our layouts.

 

This first layout is from myself and I managed to use at least one stamp from all 3 of our new stamps: Autumn Spice, Persnickety and Christmas Cheer.

Supplies: Autumn Spice (Patterned Paper: Cream, Clear Stamps and ABC Stickers), Persnickety (Pattered Paper: Snooty & Huffy and Clear Stamps) and Christmas Cheer (6x6 Tiny Tablet and Clear Stamps)

To create my title look I used the strip of dots stamp from the Christmas Cheer set. After I cut out my title using my Silhouette I stamped the dot pattern using Versamark Ink. I mixed up the stamps from the Autumn Spice set with some ABC Tiny Alphas to create some points of interest on my layout.

This second layout is from Lisa. Lisa's layout shows us a great way to collage a wide variety of stamped images all one layout. Lisa stamped her images using black ink on white cardstock then cut them out and created a collage look on kraft paper. I love how the images really pop right off her page.

Last but not least I have a layout from Nicole to share. Nicole had blast mixing in the Autumn Spice and Persnickety Stamps all on one project.  She particuallry loved the everyday stamps from Autumn Spice and used them as strips on the side of her layout. She says the polaroid stamp were perfect for her Instagram photos she had already to scrap.

Tutorial | Tiny 'Autumn' Mini Album

Good morning creative souls and happy Friday to you! Today, I (Cindy) am super excited to share a simple tutorial on how-to make this tiny mini album out of index journaling cards.

Gather a mix of index journaling cards. I used 17 of them from Autumn Spice, Persnickety, Victoria Park, Double-Dutch, Buttercup and Handmade collections.

Score each index journaling card in half, which should measure 2-inches, facing up.

If you want, you can also gather a few mini tags and mini envelope and score each of them in half, too. Once each index journaling cards has been scored, fold with print side facing in. Set cards up and arrange them with the tabs equally spaced and add in other index journaling cards with two notches at the bottom in between the cards with tabs.

Lay in order and begin adhering the first two index journaling cards backs together using a glue stick. Make sure the front of each one are flush and even through.

Use the scored mini tags and mini envelopes within the mini album adhere them to different index journaling cards. This can be done with them added in between gluing and to also hide any unevenness.

once cards have been glued together, use binder clips at top and bottom and drizzle Helmar's acid free glue to the back seams of the cards and evenly spread to get a good seal on the spine of the mini album. (Note: this glue dries super fast...less than 5 minutes)

Once dry, use mini album to determine size of cover and score according to thickness.

Evenly adhere the first and last index journaling cards inside album cover, one at a time.

To decorate the front of my mini album, I used a small tag stamped with title and embellished with tiny leaves and button. Add twine or ribbon through button holes and through the tags hole and adhere it to the small flap with a few glue dots for extra security.

Here is a view inside the tiny mini album.

Throughout the album, I used lots of cardstock stickers, clear stamps and tiny die-cut leaves. I specially made this album to keep all my favorite photos from this Fall season. This album fits 2"x1.75" photos perfectly (Instagram photos would work, too).

Guest Designer | October | Marcy Penner

Hi Lily Bee fans! It's Thursday and that means it's time for another installment of our weekly Guest Designer post.

Since it's the last Thursday in October, unfortunately that means its time to say goodbye to our wonderfully talented September Guest Designer, Marcy Penner. We've adored having Marcy join us here on the blog this past month, and know you have too! 

Marcy has created some darling cards for us today using Christmas Cheer. Here's what Marcy had to say about her creations:

I love the little pennant stickers.  They're a favorite of mine.  I used three on this card and stitched them underneath the card sentiment that was cut out of patterned paper.  I wanted another subtle accent so I punched some stars out of vellum and stapled them on.

I also wanted to make a card that could be very easily reproduced for when you need a LOT of cards and you need to do them quick!  The paper with the Santas caught my eye, so I trimmed of one of him and adhered him to a tag and stamped "joy" below him.

I can totally see making a large quantity of this one.

Using the Index Cards on Greeting Cards

Today we have some samples of how to use those fun Lily Bee Index Journaling Cards on greeting cards! There are so many ways to use them. First up, we have Patricia Roebuck's gorgeous cards.

Patricia says, "The journaling cards are one of my favorites.  The sentiments and images help create the design for cards, layouts, and projects.  They add color and interest, and even a little pocket you can create to tuck tags and even a tea bag into.  For the “feel better soon” card, I kept it simple, letting the mason jars and the sentiment I created be the focal points.  For the “Happy Day Today” card, I used the journaling card as a base to add lots of layers under and on top.  Two very different cards using a very versatile product."

For my cards, I chose the Christmas Cheer line, as I just can't get enough of this line! Red is my favorite color, so I keep coming back to this line. I love to layer the journaling cards. Here I've layered a chevron card under the "25" card. (The chevron card is actually upside down, but I love the design of the chevrons and wanted to use that in my card design.)

I used a snowflake punch, along with the Christmas Cheer stickers to create a dimensional snowflake, and popped up the sticker in the center.

Supplies: Christmas Cheer (12x12 paper, index journaling cards, stickers, 6x6 Tiny Tablet). Other: red cardstock.

On the next card, I made the beautiful  Lily Bee journaling card my focal point. 

To highlight the journaling card, I placed a punched 2" circle from patterned paper behind it and added some die cut holly. I saw a greeting card in a store that had 2 shades of holly for each leaf, and I loved how it looked, so I trimmed the holly in half and pieced them back together with light and darker green patterned paper from the Christmas Cheer line. The card front is then wrapped up like a little gift with twine before adding it to the cardstock base.

Supplies:Christmas Cheer (12x12 papers, Index Journaling Cards, 6x6 Tiny Tablet). Other: twine, holly die by Papertrey Ink, tinsel, 2" circle punch, corner rounder, hole punch, white cardstock.

Index Journaling Card Challenge

Good morning, Lily Bee fans! All week long we're focusing on Lily Bee's Index Journaling Cards here on the blog, and today Becky Williams and I are here to challenge you to use four or more of them on a single layout.

Index Journaling Cards can be used for so much more than just journaling, and I was excited to see how Becky would respond to this challege. Let's take a look at her lovely layout and see what she has to say about this fun product!

"I love the journaling cards so this was such a fun challenge for me! I used three of the Persnickety cards as photo mats and used the other to lead into my title. I also really like the variety of colors of the ABC Stickers so I used a mix of those on my page as well."

For my own layout I chose to use the Index Journaling Cards (along with a pair of patterned paper strips) to build a wide layered border across the top of my page. I alternated between vertical and horizontal papers to give the border a little movement, then topped the whole thing off with some looped twine to pull all the papers and journaling cards together.

Sketch Challenge / 10.22.2012

Heather here wishing you a Happy Monday! This week is all about the Index Journaling Cards. These essential elements are so versatile...they can be used as a standalone part of your overall layout or card design, a photo mat, a great place to do your journaling and the list goes on. 

I created this sketch specifically with these cards in mind. I hope you'll play along and post your fabulous creations to our Flickr Group!

Nicole Nowosad is playing along with me this week so let's see what she created. 

Nicole said "I used journalling cards from both the Autumn Spice and Persnickey lines on the page. The journalling cards have perfect sentiments on them for a title for your page - so I took advantage of that for mine!"

Here's my take on the sketch. I used the Autumn Spice collection and altered the sketch slightly, adding more base layers under the strips. 

I used three index journaling cards, slicing and dicing them to fit the layout just so. I even used the one that says picking pumpkins as title for the layout.

Here's a little peek at the layers. I distressed the larger layers and kept the strips intact with more clean lines, added some stitching and then I scattered a few embellishments over the layout.

I used this index card for my journaling and wrote my story so that it would end with the sentiment that is already pre-printed on the card.

Alter It Friday

Hi friends! Thank you so much for stopping by the Lily Bee blog today. I'm so excited to share our Halloween edition of Alter It Friday. Today,  Andrea and I (Deanna) are sharing two Halloween-themed projects that I'm sure will inspired you!

I chose to make a patchwork jack-o-lantern to spruce up my entryway table and give it more festive spirit. To make my Jack, I used corrugated cardboard. Using jack-o-lantern pattern I had on hand, I made a template on plain white paper, dividing Jack in to squares that would become his "patches". Then I traced and cut those patches onto my patterned papers. From there it was like working a puzzle, trying to get the right combination of papers and colors in the right spots.  To top it off, I made a small tag. Raffia and a couple of seasonal leaves finishted it off.

While I made a decor item, Andrea made this super cute treat bag.  Here's what she says about it: 

"I created a gift box using a template I created using Scor-Pal and Lily Bee papers, and embellished it with a variety of fall favorites from the Autumn Spice collection.  The eyes and nose of the pumpkin face were created using a triangle die cut and mouth was hand cut.  A gift tag hangs from the side created from layers of paper, stickers and stitching.  A few stitched fabric leaves are also attached using a safety pin."

Super cute, huh?!  I love how she added the 3D foam behind the face and added the eyes.  Such a cute box!

Guest Designer | October | Marcy Penner

Hi Lily Bee fans! It's Thursday and our Guest Designer for October, Marcy Penner is back helping us to create projects using our fantastic new collection, Autumn Spice!

My boys like to go to the back of our property and play among all the fallen trees.  We can't get there in summer because the grass it just too tall, so in fall it's perfect!

I love the little banner stickers and started my page by arranging my two photos (one horizonal and one vertical) and used the banner stickers and a label to fill in the space.  From there I added strips of paper and little embellishments and stitched everything down.

I love how Marcy punched out this little circle from our index Journaling cards, don't you? Thank you Marcy! What a lovely page!

Cards on Wednesday- Halloween

Good morning to you!

Thank you so much for visiting us here at the Lily Bee blog today. To go along with our theme this week, I, Becky Williams, along with Danielle Flanders and Leslie Ashe, have some Halloween cards to share with you.  

First up is Danielle's gorgeous card. I am always amazed at the beautiful projects she puts together and this one is no exception.

Here is what Danielle shared about her card: I wanted to make a Halloween card that wasn't too overly themed, so I punched out circles for the "boo" with a circle punch from the patterned papers and a capital B with some alpha dies, then layered it over felt. Combining patterns on your card and layering a stamped image like I did here with the Persnickety chevron stamp really adds detail to a card! Setting the focal point at an angle also helps the card to be a little more unexpected and interesting.

Next up is Leslie's card. I have to tell you something funny about our cards- I was skimming through Instagram and saw that she and I both used the very same pumpkin cut file from Silhouette! We both laughed and figure that great minds must think alike, right? I really like how she let the Autumn Spice peek through the kraft paper and her fun doodling on the card:

So cute, right?

Leslie said, "I decided to use my Silhouette Cameo to cut these cute pumpkins for my card today. I love all the patterns, especially the banners & chevron. To make my design stand out, I put 2 orange patterns behind kraft cardstock pumpkins that I cut, as well as a lighter white pattern.  Adding a bigger banner, some buttons & letters – made my card complete!

Lastly is a card that I created: 

The Autumn Spice collection is perfect for fall and Halloween and I really like the unexpected pop of blue. I wanted to help the blue stand out by using the blue alphas from the ABC Sticker sheet. I used the neutral Finicky paper from the Persnickety collection as a backdrop for the pumpkins that I cut using my Silhouette Cameo and backed with the fun woodgrain (Nutmeg) paper.

Tuesday Challenge | Custom Stamped Background

Good Morning! Stacey Michaud and I are on the blog today with a new Tuesday challenge! I loved the stamp sets that were included in the new collections and wanted to challenge myself to use them a little differently. Stacey and I decided to challenge ourselves to create a customized stamped background on our projects and we are challenging you to do the same! 

Here are two cards that I created. On the first one, I used the Autumn Spice acrylic stamps and used the circle outline stamp in particular. I stamped the circle all over the orange cardstock with an orange ink. This tone-on-tone technique is a simple one to use but I love the subtle effect it gives.

For my second card, I stamped the word "HAPPY" from the Autumn Spice stamps again repeatedly in straight rows on the upper portion of my card. I then cut three different paper from the 6x6 tablet in a curved shape and placed them on the bottom part of my card. I like how the word "HAPPY" sort of "pokes" out of the top of the papers. I created a quick little banner tag and used the ABC stickers and the "HAPPY" stamp again for my sentiment.

I absolutely LOVE Stacey's take on this challenge! Her customized spider web is just fantastic! Here is what she has to say about the challenge:

 I wanted to document how my kiddos reuse their costumes again and again all year round. Since it was a Halloween layout, I decided to create a custom-made spider web.  I first used the dotted line stamp from the Christmas Cheer collection to make an X and then added in more diagonal lines.  To create the in -between lines seen in spider webs, I place the heart stamp from the Persnickety collection on a curve.  I simply used ink only on the specific number of hearts needed to connect to both diagonal lines.  I placed red brads on all intersecting lines to give the whole web some pop.  The colors of the Autumn Spice collection are perfect for Halloween layouts!

Sketch Challenge / 10.15.2012

Good morning Lily Bee fans!  This week we'll be focusing on Halloween themed projects with that day coming quickly down the pike. We've got another fun sketch challenge for you all today!  I have created a sketch for you that has a photostrip theme with a base of layers that you can easily add to.  

Deana Misner is joining me (Ursula) today as well and we hope you are inspired to dive in and create your own take on today's sketch and share you're result.

First up, here is Deanna Misner's take on the sketch.  Deanna says 'I really loved working with this sketch because I love to use multiple photos. This one was perfect for a line-up of past Halloween costumes. It was so fun to look back and see how my little girl changed from year to year, and to reminisce about the memories associated with each one.'

I used both the Persnickety and Autumn Spice collections to set the tone for the color scheme I wanted. I love the oranges of Fall but also wanted to include some pink too since it was a predominant color in 2 of the 3 pictures.

'The Picky paper from Persnickety was the PERfect solution for that. I also cut out the pennant from one of the Persnickety index journaling cards to add a little flag at the bottom of the page. And for a homespun look, I added a little faux-stitching around the edges of my main sheet of paper'

And here is my take on the sketch.  I altered it just a bit, adding a few more layers and changing the placement of the lower elements to the left side.

You can see below that I stamped the polaroid stamp from the Persnickety collection 5 times and then heat embossed it with some colored embossing powders.  

And I need to just make the statement that the quality of the Lily Bee stamps is absolutely outstanding.  I don't think I've ever had such crisp images.  The Autumn Spice stamps may be my current favorite for words.
