November Guest Designer-Anabelle O' Malley

November has come to an end which means it's time for us to say good-bye to our Guest Designer Anabelle O'Malley.  She has two last projects to share with us using the Christmas Cheer line. 

Annabelle said "Christmas Cheer is such a fun line. The patterns are perfect for making cards! On my Happy 25th card, I traced the wooden snowflake onto the Peppermint paper and cut it out. "

Then, I adhered it and sanded the edges. I topped the snowflake off with a cardstock sticker that I added with foam adhesive.

The alpha stickers completed my sentiment.

On my Christmas cheer card, I cut the chevron strip form the Figgy Pudding paper and added it as a border.

I die cut a scalloped circle and topped it with a cardstock sticker to create a fun embellishment.

Finally, I trimmed the sentiment from another sticker, so it would fit on my card, and added it at the bottom.

Paper Piecing Inspiration and Layout Strategies for Cards

Good morning, Lily Bee fans! Melissa here along with Andrea today to share even more fabulous Christmas card inspiration during Lily Bee's week-long focus on holiday cards. Andrea and I have distinctly different card styles and cardmaking processes, and it's amazing to see what different scrappers can make with the same supplies.

First up today is Andrea with a beautifully paper-pieced greeting. Here's what Andrea has to say about her card:

There is something so wonderful about crafting this time of year, for me that is creating a snowman.  From the first cut with the scissor to the last holly berry button, it keeps me smiling.  Each piece is hand cut for a handmade feel as with creating a snowman from snow.  To complete this card, create a special sentiment using a mix of stamps and ABC stickers.

And now it's time to look at my own cards. As a confessed card-challenged scrapper, I've had to come up with ways of making card design easier for me. Sometime over the summer I decided to make card design feel more like assembling layouts, switching over from the standard A4 card size to a 6x6 square and adopting more of a layout feel in my designs. 

For this set of cards I even chose a photo as my focal point- something that works especially well if you have a more artistic photo in mind like my intentionally unfocused shot of a Christmas light display.

All three of these cards have the same basic design and feel a lot like one of my layouts would. I've also used some of the same embellishment and paper placement techhniques that I you see on my scrapbook pages- in fact, each of these cards is based on a layout that I've completed in the last few months!

Take Shape Card Challenge | 11.27.12

Hi there! Heather here to share a new challenge with you today. This week the design team gals are showcasing Christmas and Holiday cards so my challenge twist to you today is to pull out you favorite Lily Bee goodies and CREATE A SHAPED CARD. This means no standard size rectangle cards, unless...you create a festive holiday shape as the main embellishment on the card.

I created these two cards to hopefully spur a few ideas. First, is my shaped card...a snow globe.

Supplies: Christmas Cheer (6x6 Tiny Tablet, Figgy Pudding 12x12 paper); Autumn Spice (Nutmeg 12x12 paper)

I cut the globe portion out of thick transparency on my CAMEO but creating a circle card cutting file. I then cut another circle the same size out of white cardstock and another circle with a snowflake design and affixed them over the back of the card. I then embellished with snow covered meadows, deer and a tree.

Next is a standard card but I created a Christmas tree out of triangles and used it as the main focus for the card.

I used the banners to create additional smaller trees and stamped the sentiment using the stamp set from this collection.

Here's a close-up of the tree. I simply cut triangles in cascading sizes and layered them over each other, using pop dots to make them stand out.

Focus on Holiday Cards

This week, the design team will be focusing on Christmas and Holiday cards to get your card giving season jump started.

Join Leslie Ashe and Ursula Schneider today for two totally different approaches to card making. 

Leslie is up first with two beautifully detailed projects.  Leslie says, 'I love tags. For this card I made 3 small tags (2x4) with the middle one slightly longer (2x4.5) and using 3D adhesive, slightly above the outer tags. Adding some jute as ribbon & mixed stickers to decorate each tag, I think this card turned out so cute for that someone special!'

I wanted to play on the snowflakes for this wintery card – so I used the round snowflake stickers as my main embellishment with a journaling card as my sentiment.

On the other hand, when you don't have the time to be super detailed,  you still want design that has impact.  Ursula created the first card using only stamps and a few wood veneer shapes.

To pump up the impact, place one of the 'Merry Christmas' phrases in the center and emboss using silver embossing powder.

The next two cards demonstrate starting with a similar design.  However, you can go different directions even with the same basic elements.  I die cut the starts which fold and pop up to create dimension.  

This first one utilizes the Lily Bee ABC Cardstock stickers to create a sentiment.  A bit of stitching both anchors the sentiment and provides classic detail.

The second card continues with the theme of the single star, but anchors it on a base of patterned paper.  Zig zag stitch over some twine as a border to add a bit of color and texture.  Cut the sentiment from one of the Mixed Cardstock stickers and center at the top of the design.

Focus on 6x6 Tiny Tablets | Tutorial

Happy Friday Lily Bee Friends. Summer here with a fun Advent Calendar tutorial to start off the holiday creative season.

Supplies Used: Christmas Cheer (6x6 Tiny Tablet)

To create this advent calendar you will need 1 Lily Bee 6x6 Christmas Cheer tiny Tablet, small kraft bags, your favorite border punch, 7/8 inch circle punch, 1 inch decorative punch , red cardstock, bakers twine, 18x22 inch frame, and mini clothes pins.

To start off using my 7/8 inch circle punch I punched out all the numbers from the Christmas Cheer 6x6 Tiny Tablet number paper. Then using red cardstock I punched out 25 1 inch decorative starbursts. I used a Martha Stewart punch but you could use a 1 inch scallop punch or even a 1 inch circle punch.

Using foam squares for added depth I adhered the punched circles to the red startbursts.

Cut 25 2.5 inch x 2 inch rectangles of your favorite patterns from the Christmas Cheer 6x6 Tiny Tablet. Then using your favorite border punch add a decorative border to the long edge of your cut out rectangles. Then fold in half as seen in the photo below. Put the candy in the kraft bag, fold the edge to seal in the candy and top off with your folded piece of patterned paper. My kraft bags came from Micheal's.

I sewed my bags shut as seen in the photo below but you could easily staple them instead.

Since I have 2 kids I made 2 sets of candy bags.

I purchased an inexpensive unfinished frame from Micheal's, spray painted it black, distressed it, then I tacked bakers twine in 5 rows and used mini clothes pins to attach the treat bags.

Focus on 6x6 Tiny Tablets-Cards

Good morning! It's Becky Williams here with you today as we continue our focus on the 6x6 Tiny Tablets. The smaller patterns of the 6x6 pads are just the right scale for creating cards and I have some cards from me and Deanna Misner to share with you. 

First up are these two beautiful cards from Deanna using the lovely Autumn Spice collection: 

Feathers have become quite the trendy thing in the scrapbooking world and Deanna does a fantastic job of incorporating them into this card. I really like the depth and texture she gave to them. 

The feathers stand out in a gorgeous way against the floral background and doily.

Deanna also created this cute chevron-striped thank you card:

I really like how she created a stripe using a variety of patterns from the Autumn Spice 6x6 pad and then stitched over the top to add texture and also a place to add her card sentiment.

Beautiful work, Deanna!

I also created with the Autumn Spice collection since I thought it was quite fitting for this time of year with fall and also Thanksgiving right around the corner. It's so hard to believe that it is tomorrow already!

For this card I used a mix of patterns from the Autumn Spice Tiny Tablet along with my Fiskars butterfly punch, added them to the cardfront that I'd cut just slightly smaller than the cardbase, then simply stapled them in the center to keep them in place. I liked the idea of having just one in the golden floral pattern to make it stand out on the card:

I also created this card:

The flowers from this patterned paper were just begging to be cut out and added to this card, especially in the smaller scale of the 6x6 pad. I added Glossy Accents to the centers of some of the flowers, then popped them up with foam adhesive. 

I trimmed the right edge of the index card so that it would fit as I wanted on my cardfront and added the handcut flowers on top. The "so blessed" was from one of the cardstock stickers. I used the blue alphas to add a pop of color to the sentiment.

Sketch Challenge | 11.20

 

Hello there! It's me, Cindy. I'm here with a new sketch challenge and it's all about those lovely 6x6 Tiny Tablets. Joining me are two very talented team members, Nicole Nowosad and Heather Leopard.

Nicole's layout pulls you in with her fabulous sunburst effect, layered with lots of pattern paper and sticker accents.

Supplies: Persnickety (Finicky paper, 6x6 Tiny Tablet, Cardstock Mixed stickers, Acrylic Stamps, ABC mini-stickers), Autumn Spice (6x6 Tiny Tablet, Index Journal Cards) & Christmas Cheer (6x6 Tiny Tablet, ABC mini-stickers)

Nicole shares how she interpreted the sketch: As soon as I opened up the sketch, I knew that I wanted to do a sunburst effect on the top of the page. The Tiny Tablets make it easy to create this effect  using as many papers from all the new tiny tablets as possible! I am not a measurer – so I randomly cut strips from the tablets and layered them on the background paper and then stitched them together to create the starburst effect.

Like Nicole, I to used a mix of patterns to create the details at the top of my page with a linear approach.

I love the smaller print versions on the 6x6 tiny tablets. You get a really good visual of the patterns and they stand out on any project. I used long strips of 1" wide arrows in various patterns and machine stitched to the background. For a cohesive look, I used smaller arrows as accents throughout the page.

Heather's Christmas layout is very similar to the sketch. The bold blue highlighted on her page and title treatment are stunning.

Heather explains: My daughters each have their own personalized ornaments and they look forward to hanging them in a special place on the Christmas tree every year. This sketch, mixed with the 6 x 6 paper pad was perfect for capturing the snapshots of my oldest daughter trimming the tree with her ornaments.

Focus on 6X6 Tiny Tablets

Happy Monday everyone!  This week we are focusing on the super versatile 6X6 Tiny Tablets.  Cardmakers absolutely love the small pads for obvious reasons...they are the perfect size.  But these little patterned jewels can be used for so many different projects!

Melissa Mann showcased the 6X6 papers on this lovely, layered page.

Melissa explains:  Banners are still a favorite thing to put on my layouts and there are two sets of them here on this layout. I cut out the big triangles on the left side of the layout from sheets from the 6x6 Tiny Tablets and layered them across each other and then stitched them down. Then, I punched out a bunch of hearts from white card stock, 6x6 Tiny Tablets, & vellum and placed them across my layout in three different banners. I then stitched each of those down with my sewing machine.

My photo was placed on a cluster of index journaling cards, pattern paper, and leftover vellum from the punched hearts. A few mixed stickers, title, and subtitle finished off the layout.

I created this layout using six different sheets of the Tiny Tablet.

I rather enjoy using the 6X6 tablets because they patterns are smaller in size.  I decided to make triangles a major design element.  Even though each triangle is little, the patterns are still prominent.To make the triangles, I used my square punch and then cut each one in half.  I love to group them together to make interesting borders and backgrounds.

I handcut the small, circular doilies from a sheet and love how they add a curve without being too big.

Focus on Cardstock Stickers | Altered Projects

Happy Friday, Lily Bee Fans.  Patricia here today with the very talented Andrea Budjack to share our altered projects with you.

Andrea, created the most creative and beautiful tags using the mixed cardstock stickers to create her own embellishments!   

By sticking four banner stickers to cardstock and triming along the outer edges, you get a flower as shown on this tag set above.

Use a variety of colors, patterns and collections to create a colorful bloom that is perfect for any project.

Supplies: Persnickety (Fussy - paper, Huffy - paper, Snooty - paper, Mixed Cardstock Stickers, Finicky - paper, Clear Stamps), Autumn Spice (Mixed Cardstock Stickers, Clear Stamps, Pumpkin Spice - paper, Clove - paper, Vanilla- paper), Christmas Cheer (Mixed Cardstock Stickers, Clear Stamps, Figgy Pudding - paper, Mrs. Claus - paper), Victoria Park (Wortley Village - paper)

This is the most creative project, and she even decorated the basket that they fit into.

For my project, I wanted a frame to go with the Fall decor we have on our mantle right now.  So I created my own using the photo of my family at the Pumpkin Patch.

I used Zip Dry glue to adhere the pattern paper to the frame.  For the front, I just glued the frame, then placed down onto the pattern paper, cut out with a craft knife.  For the sides, I measured, cut, and then glued down.  You would never know that this was originally a pink plastic frame.  

The frame measured 5x7, but I printed my photo 4x6 so I could matte it and add a little bit more of the orange color.  Then using the "family" sticker as the inspiration, I cut out a label and a leaf to layer and embellish on the corner.  Very simple frame with lots of color, perfect for your Fall decor.

Here's what Annabelle had to say about her project:

Sunbursts are really trendy right now and I love the way they look. Since my page was about my son's love of archery, I decided to borrow the concept, but use arrows rather than sun rays on my page.

I used the banner stickers from  the Autumn Spice, Persnickety and Christmas Cheer Mixed cardstock sticker sheets to create the rays of arrows shooting out from the photo. I mixed them and layered them slightly on top of each other.

Focus on Cardstock Stickers | Cards

We're continuing our focus this week on Mixed Cardstock Stickers! Today, Summer and Lisa have some ideas for quick & easy cards that can be put together in no time.  The Lily Bee stickers make it simple to design fabulous cards, and here's the proof!

Lily Bee Supplies: Autumn Spice (Nutmeg paper, ABC Stickers, Mixed Cardstock Stickers)

Summer used the Autumn Spice stickers to create a quilt-like pattern on cardstock and then cut out a heart shape. A few ABC Cardstock Stickers for the sentiment complete this adorable card.

On her next card, Summer punched tiny hearts from the Autumn Spice pennant stickers to create a row of colorful hearts along the bottom edge. Adhering them with foam squares adds a bit of dimension and whimsy:

 

Lisa created two holiday cards featuring the Christmas Cheer line. On the front of the cards, she die cut a 2-inch square to make a window. Inside the window, she layered Mixed Cardstock Stickers with rhinestones for a bit of holiday bling:

On the bottom edge of each window, she lined up some of the coordinating pennant stickers.

Focus on Cardstock Stickers -- Challenge

All week we are focusing on Lily Bee Design Cardstock Stickers.  There are lots of them available and so many fun and creative ways to use them.

Today, Deana Misner and I (Ursula Schneider) would like to challenge you to find a way to use 10 or more stickers on a single project.  Here is what we did to inspire you.

I created a colorful grid using strips of paper from a variety of Lily Bee Designs collections.  This gave me the perfect spots to anchor a variety of the shaped cardstock stickers.

To create depth, I added some foam pop dots behind several of the stickers so they popped up off the page at times.

I didn't limit myself to a single collection, but pulled both paper and stickers from a number of Lily Bee Designs collections.

'For this challenge, I chose to feature the pennant triangles from the mixed cardstock stickers and use them as arrows to direct the eye across the page from the photo grouping to the journaling. This was the first time I've used them this way, and I have to say, I really like it.'

  

 It was fun trying to do something new (to me) for this challenge--which is exactly what a challenge is supposed to do!

I also included the "Picking Pumpkins" cardstock sticker as a part of my title and a half circle over on the far left edge.  I used 11.5 stickers in all. What a fun challenge!

Focus on Cardstock Mixed Stickers | Layouts

Happy Monday ! Nicole here along with Becky Williams with a new weekly focus - Cardstock Mixed Stickers. 

Becky and I thought we would try to make use of as many of the stickers in different ways our pages as possible today and here is the result!

Hello Sunshine by Becky Williams

Supplies: Christmas Cheer (Index Journaling Cards, Mixed Stickers), Persnickety (Finicky Paper, Fussy Paper, Index Journaling Cards, Mixed Stickers), Autumn Spice (Cream Paper). 

For this Focus On Cardstock Mixed Stickers layout, Becky wanted to show off the stickers in a few different ways. First, she used them to create a banner at the top of her layout and lifted up the bottom of each triangle for added visual interest. She then also used them as accents to tie into her page title, with one being used as the center of the sunshine and the other at the bottom of the page to go with the diecut title. Becky cut down the "celebrate today" sticker to better fit the space on her page. 

I just love how Becky layered the stickers using some foam adhesive to add dimension to the stickers!

As you can see, both Becky and I used a lot of stickers for our pages. I took a slightly different approach and really wanted the stickers to guide my inspiration for my page. I used stickers from Persnickety, Autumn Spice and Christmas Cheer collections to create the background for my page.

When I saw you... by Nicole Nowosad

Supplies: Persnickety (Tiny Tablet, Cardstock Mixed Stickers, Acrylic Stamps, Journalling Cards, BC Mini Alphas), Christmas Cheer (Cardstock Mixed Stickers, Acrylic Stamps),Autumn Spice (Allspice paper, Cardstock Mixed Stickers, Journalling Cards).

I lined up the banner stickers from each of the Cardstock Mixed sticker sheets and then stitched them down into rows. Like Becky did, I peeled up the ends of the stickers to add some visual interest.

You can see that I added in some cardstock and vellum cut in the same shape as the Cardstock Mixed stickers and added them in with the stickers to create my background.

I also trimmed down one of the Cardstock Mixed stickers and layered it over some paper and added some stitching and stamped images from the Autumn Spice line.

Project Life + Being Thankful

Good morning, everyone! Melissa here to share a Project Life layout to finish out this week's Lily Bee blog focus on gratitude.

There's a lot to be thankful for in life, and all I have to do is look at any given week in my Project Life albums to realize that! The pages are filled with adventures, family, special events, everyday life, dinners out, birthdays, vacations, and (for me at least) perhaps a few too many trips to buy ice cream. 

I've been slowly going back and catching up on the weeks of my 2011 Project Life album that I never completed, and while flipping through the unscrapped photos I came across some from a fall week where we spent the weekend out of town adventuring with family, then came back home to our cozy little house to find that we'd been blessed by an unexpected burst of autumn color. Was I grateful for this? Oh, yes! So I thought those photos + Lily Bee's Autumn Spice collection would be perfect for this month's Lily Bee Project Life post.

For these pages I turned to the Autumn Spice 6x6 Tiny Tablet for the patterned papers, then embellished with a few Index Journaling Cards, stickers, and clear stamps from the same collection.
