Challenge Tuesday | Sketch and OLW

One of the ideas for projects for January here at Lily Bee is goals and resolutions. I saw the perfect opportunity to document my One Little Word (OLW) for 2014.

 

 

I used the We R Family and Urban Autumn collections from Lily Bee to make my layout. I love the wood veeners, sweet spot enamel stickers and  daily deck cards in each collection, so I wanted to make sure those had a place on my layout.

 

 

I didn't take an up-close picture of my journaling, but I will share with you why I chose "LIGHT." It has many meanings that are important for my personal success in 2014: 

• To be the "light" for others who are in need of leadership.

• To "lighten" my commitments and share responsibilities with others where I can.

• To be "light hearted" and carefree when I can be. Some things should just be fun and not stressful.

 

Today is also a challenge day, so here is the sketch that goes with my layout for today.

Cards on Wednesday | Tag Your it!

This week we are changing things up a bit on the blog - we all started off this week's projects with the same sketch and each day we are challenged with a new twist!

Here is the sketch that we are using for this week:

Since today is Wednesday - it's our card day ! I decided to whip up a few cards, using the sketch in 2 different ways - PLUS, I was challenged by Heather to use something HARD & something SOFT on my cards!

For my first card, I used the base patterns on the sketch and copied it onto my card. I used the diagnal shape and went from there:

 

 Supplies: We R Family (Tiny Tablet, Washi Tape); Urban Autumn (Daily Deck, Metal Badges); Destination (Letter Stickers)

I used a Metal Badge from the new Urban Autumn collection as my hard item and then some metallic thread as my soft item, circling over top the diecut snowflake: 

 

I used the gold dot washi tape (LOVE IT) over and over in rows to create a patterned paper type design on the card, and then covered the edges with pieces of patterned paper.

 

 For my next card, I kept it quite simple, cutting some simple pennant shapes from patterned paper and adding a stamped sentiment and some punched snowflakes.

 For my hard item, I used some staples and my soft item this time was some baker's twine from the Pinwheel embellishment bundle!

Challenge Tuesday | Gift Giving

Hello! Diana Fisher here with you today to challenge you to make (rather than buy) a gift box this holiday season. If you don't have a Cameo or Cricut to cut a digital file, there are also plenty of templates online where you can trace or measure out the dimensions for a gift box.

Here is my gift box to get you motivated! I used the We R Family collection .

For a second challenge, I dare you to use a collection that is not meant for the holidays. These gorgeous fall colors and patterns work so well for a subtle holiday gift.

Challenge on Tuesday | 2 page layouts

Good morning Lily Bee fans!!! Today is the first Tuesday of the month, which means it's time for a new monthly sketch!

This week, the Design Team will be sharing some 2 page layouts and keeping that theme in mind, this month's sketch is a 2 pager!

Here is the sketch:

 

Truth be told, it has been YEARS since I have sat down to scrapbook a 2 page layout. I was suprised it didn't take too much time to get back into the swing of it and I do like the result!

Here is my take on this month's sketch:

Supplies: We Are Family (6x6 Tiny Tablet, Mother, Daughter, Family Tree, Sibling Rivalry, Game Night, Daily Deck cards, Metal Badges, Washi Tape, Wood Veneers); Urban Autumn (Wood Veneers); Pinwheel (Letter Stickers)

Once I got over my initial fear - I realized - 2 pagers are a great way to incorporate a lot of photos and I tried to do just that, using 5 photos and a daily deck card, instead of a photo.  It also gives you a lot of space, perfect for larger titles, like this one I cut from my Silhouette Cameo out of some paper from the We Are Family collection.

I dove into the Tiny Tablet and punched a lot of circles and stitched around them, instead of using a sheet of patterned paper.

Challenge Tuesday | Card Sketch

Hello! Diana Fisher here with you today with a sketch to get you motivated to make some cards. The holidays are right around the corner, so I'm sure some of you need a little extra mojo to get those cards completed.

This week I am also focusing in on the new stamps in the We R Family Collection.

Here is a sketch to get you started:

And now, here are two different ways I used the sketch.

For this first one, I made the strips with one sheet of paper (Family Heirloom), but cut out the traingles to help separate the lines on the card. Fun enamel hearts (Sweet Spots) add a pop of whimsy to the card. I used the TOGETHER pennant stamp for my sentiment.

For my second card, I used strips of paper from the 6x6 tiny tablet version of the same Family Heirloom pattern. The smaller traingles helped to narrow the focus of the strips, unlike the larger triangles above. I used the heart and circle from the stamp set for a central focal point on the card.

Tuesday Challenge | October Sketch Revisited

Hello Friends!  It's Wendy Sue here today, revisiting the layout sketch for this month.  Here's another peek of this month's sketch:

I combined the sketch with this week's theme, "Everyday Life."  I took this photo of my four kiddos earlier this year.  It wasn't a special occasion...it was just a Sunday afternoon after we got home from church - we were sitting outside just enjoying the nice warm sunshine - something we had been longing for after months of cold days.  It was just a regular "everyday" moment that I captured with a single photograph.  I love photos like this - when there's nothing special to celebrate, but the photo stirs up emotions anyway.  I love these kiddos and I'm grateful for the regular "everyday moments" we share!

Here are a few details of my layout:

I had fun adding buttons, stickers, and chipboard pieces - placing them according to the sketch.

And of course, I always love adding machine stitching to my projects - and when I have the perfect colors of thread to coordinate with the products I've used, I love it even more!

Focus on Monday: Everyday Life

Welcome to Monday!  This week we are putting the emphasis on the everyday!  I love to document those small moments that showcase our daily life. The littlest moments are sometimes the most important. I don't want to forget the stories that make up most of my days!  Documenting the every day will help my kids and me remember.

I use my camera phone to capture most of my everyday moments.  I snapped this photo while shopping at Lowe's, my son in tow.  Or should I say, in cart.

I remember shopping with the kids years ago.  I started by putting the baby carrier in the cart, working so hard to wedge it in securely.  After a while, the kids sat in the front seat, all buckled in with the saftey cover over the cart.  It cracks me up that they still want to ride in the cart. I used the tag to journal the details.

 

I wanted to give some movement to the page, so I decided to use the triangles as arrows.  I carefully cut around three columns of arrows and glued them to the page.  I like how they point to the location of where my kid is!

 A new month means a new sketch and I am back again today, to share this month's sketch challenge!

It's also "white space" week here on the blog, and so that has been incorporated into this month's sketch. Here is the sketch for this month's challenge:

I used the Port paper as inspiration for this project. I just love the polaroid frame background and knew I wanted to make it part of my design. I cut 2"x2" squares and layered them over the base paper and then stitched them down:

Next, I created my layered grouping under my photo, with some Index Journaling Cards and different types of stickers:

I finished off my page with some of the great letter stickers in the Pinwheel line. I love how the larger font mix well with the smaller letters!

Good morning Lily Bee fans! Today, I have the lovely and super talented Cindy Liebel and Diana Fisher with me for this week's designer's challenge!

The challenge this week was to scraplift a page we found in the Lily Bee Design Flickr Gallery. This is the page that was chosen and we all used it as inspiration for our pages today.

Great inspiration right!! Now, let's see what our designers did with this challenge.

"The members layout, Beach Girl is just adorable. I especially loved how she framed the photo on top of the stacked layers of pattern paper, giving it a lot of depth and focus. It inspired me to add lots of texture to my page using staggered layers of white on white embossed cardstock.

Like the original layout, I surrounded my framed photo with little bits of embellishments for additional pops of color and framed the entire white background with a dark blue background to compliment the blue jeans in the photo."

"I loved the layout Nicole chose for us to work with today. I wanted to make sure I used the off-center paper layering in the layout we are lifting, as well as the top corner cluster in the right corner.

I also liked how the title was off to the side, so I used a combination of Lily Bee Letter stickers and a cut on my Cameo for my title. I also used all of the Lily Bee papers that had hearts on them and mix & matched the collections. I loved how the final combination looked. "

I just love how both Cindy and Diana stuck to the central layered design on the page and yet their pages are so unique too!

For my page, I was inspired by the design of the page along with the beachy theme of the page:

Challenge on Tuesday | Card Sketch

Hey Lily Bee Fans! I am here to share a few easy cards today based on a sketch and a twist!

Since this week's theme is 1 item, 2 ways - I used this one sketch, to make 2 cards that are similar, yet still a little different too!

Here is the sketch for this month:

Here is the first card I made, using lots of Sweet Shoppe:

Supplies: Sweet Shoppe (6x6 Tiny Tablet, Embellishment Bundle) Destination (Embellishment Bundle), Pinwheel (Label Stickers), Autumn Spice (Clear Stamps)

I used a combination of wood buttons from both the Destination and Sweet Shoppe collections to embellish some of the layered circles:

I still can't get enough of the Autumn Spice stamps, and the "happy" stamp is great for cards ! Just add a few bits of happiness to a label sticker and you are set!

My next card is fairly similar, using a few of the same papers and I added in different papers and changed the placement of the title!

I just love the new Letter Stickers in the Pinwheel collection - they are perfect for cards!

 and my other favorite are the Chit Chat stickers! I added a few birthday like words along the top and bottom row of the card - just the right touch to make it a little more "birthday" than the card was!

Challenge on Tuesday | Layout Sketch

Hello Lily Bee fans!  I'm here today with Diane and Wendy with a sketch challenge to jumpstart your creativity today!

We're also continuing with the theme for this week which is using mixed media on our pages.  Here's what Diane came up with...

Diane says, "For my mixed media layout I wanted to try a technique I've never done before...melting wax/crayons.  I decided to use a photo of my daughter when she graduated from pre-k to tie into the elementary theme."

For this technique, all you need are some used crayons and a heat tool.  Attach small pieces of crayons to a scrap piece of paper then adhere the scrap paper to your layout using removable adhesive (or washi tape).  Holding the layout upright, heat the crayons until they melt and drip down your page.

 

Diane also melted individual colors of crayons onto parts of her photo and layout.

Here's how Wendy interpreted the sketch...

Wendy stuck very close to the sketch, but turned it from a 12x12 into an 8 1/2 x 11.  Wendy said, "I just love a great sketch and this was definitely a fun one!  I love the spattering of embellishments and the nice clean lines."

Wendy used Christmas cards leftover from last year and cut off the "holiday" portion on this simple, yet beautiful, layout.

 And here's my take...

I used modeling paste and a stencil to make the honeycomb effect on my page, which adds a lot of texture and dimension. 

Then I used a brush and dipped them into my spray ink bottles to color in some of the hexagons to coordinate with the colors on my layout after the modeling paste dried.

Challenge on Tuesday | Layout Sketch

Hello Lily Bee Fans, Cindy and Patricia here with another fun sketch challenge to inspire your creativity.

Patricia's "Mom is Gonna Snap" layout was inspired by the circles elements within the sketch with lots of details displayed throughout her overall page design. I love how she interpreted the sketch and uses layers of subtle patterns and colors in her background, which allow for her embellishments to pop.

"I love circles in designs, so when I saw Cindy’s sketch, I started thinking of how I wanted to use the circles. I came across this camera shutter in the Silhouette shop, tweaked it by adding “snap” all the way around it."

"With the theme of the layout now set, I picked out my favorite photo I took of myself in the visor of our car. I filled in the spots of the shutter with papers from the 6x6 tiny tablet, layered the title onto stickers, and used several larger sheets of pattern paper to layer under the smaller cardstock sheet."

 "My layout did not come out like the sketch at all, but it was very much inspired by it, but I still incorporated lots of circle elements with the stickers, chipboard, buttons, and brad."

 

I stuck close to the sketch design when creating my "Lollipop" layout and used photos that went along with the circle theme.

When I came across these images of my son when he was around five years old, I knew it would fit not only with the sketch but also with the Sweet Shoppe collection perfectly. I love how the deep pink color of the lollipop added extra color to the stark white background.

I wanted my page to have a lots of texture, so I shaved the edges of the white background for a rough, torn look and added machine stitched lines for extra detail. Round flair buttons, circle stickers and circle shaped pattern papers were used to continue with the circle elements for a cohesive look.

For my title, I used the from the "Lollipop" song by The Chordettes, to fill in the space on the page and layered them with smaller circle photos.

Sketch revisited | Splashes of Color

Hello! Diana Fisher and Diane Payne here with you today as we revisit the sketch challenge for the month of July. In case you missed it, this is July's sketch.

Here is what Diane made and what she had to say about her process:

"Although my layout looks nothing like the sketch, I did start out with the sketch in mind. My original plan was to use one photo with a large title to the right of the photo and substitute the triangles with circles.

As I started to cut circles I decided I wanted the circles to look more like an extension of the lens flare in the photo which resulted in small scattered confetti. 

The large strip of paper underneath the 3 photos in the sketch was replaced with small stripes and I finished it off with a summer quote from Pinterest. I love seeing how people interpret sketches. Don't be afraid to let it take you in a different direction, they are meant to inspire and spark ideas, regardless of the outcome.

I love what Diane made, and I love that we both took such a different approach to the sketch and the color splash. Here is what I made.

I tried to be true to the sketch because I generally do use a lot of white space and I wanted to use the sketch as inspiration and get away from my usual layout. I even used the little triangles in the sketch as triangles. I cut them from the 6x6 paper pad from Sweet Shoppe, and they are really tiny!

I used nearly all of the black or grey patterns in the Sweet Shoppe and Pinwheel collections — I love how they mixed and matched so well together. The Cameo came in handy for cutting my title in only the colors I wanted.

The layered word bubbles from the Pinwheel - Flip Flops pattern paper and the Label stickers added some fun layering to all of the patterns on the page.

Challenge on Tuesday | Card Sketch

Good Morning, Lily Bee friends!  Stacey, Summer and I have a brand new card sketch to share with you today, along with a card from each of us based on the sketch!  First of all, here's the sketch: 

Stacey is up first!  Here's what she had to say about her card: " I was inspired by the diagonal lines of the sketch and decided to make sun rays using the Hello paper.  It is a border that I cut into smaller pieces."

 

 "I added twine through the chipboard button and randomly swirled it to add some softness. Since there were so many words on the rays, I put my sentiment on the circular sun."

Summer created a fun card to share as well! I love how she interpreted the diagonal lines from the sketch in her design.Here's a detail shot of Summer's card:

And finally, here's the card I created myself based on the sketch.  Since I drew the quick sketch, I stuck pretty closely to the design.  I added a polaroid style frame (simply cut from patterned paper using the digital die-cut file HERE) which helped break up and separate some of the busy patterned papers I included.

I added some pop-dots for dimension behind some of the chipboard banner pieces, and tied some baker's twine around the frame.
