Project Life on Friday

Good Morning! I (Melissa M.) am  here today to share my project life album using some Lily Bee Design supplies!

Lily Bee Supplies: Persnickety (6x6 Tiny Tablet, ABC Stickers, Mixed Stickers), Christmas Cheer (Mixed Stickers), Autumn Spice (Mixed Stickers). 

So far, I have stayed caught up this year with my Project Life album. I have taken a slightly different approach this year in keeping my weeks caught up. I have worked on it every two weeks. I upload my photos every week to the computer and edit and save them. At the end of the two weeks, I also load all my iPhone photos onto the computer so I can set them up in a new photoshop file to get them printed. Then, I upload all photos to get developed and complete the two weeks in one sitting. It generally takes me to one and a half to two hours and I will be done! So far, this process has worked great and I hope I will be able to keep it up through out the year!

I put my 6x6 Tiny Tablet from the Persnickety collection to good use on this week's spread. It is super easy to use those 6x6 sheets of paper to make quick 3x4 cards or even 4x6 cards. I cut down one to 4x6 and stitched the phrase "the good life" onto it and popped it in the protector. Quick & easy!

On this half of the week, I cut down the 6x6 sheets to 3x4 (I was able to get two cards from each sheet) and used them to staple my iPhone pictures too. I further embellished them with stickers and wood veneer pieces. I take a very easy approach to Project Life - I do not type out my journaling or use a lot of stitching. My tiny attacher has become my best friend for this project :-)

Mixing it up for some Valentine's Cards

Hello again!

It's Becky Williams here with a couple of love-themed cards to start getting you in the mood for Valentine's Day! Just as we've been doing all week I have mixed and matched collections to create these cards. 

The great thing about scrapbooking these days is that pretty much anything goes. You can use a non-traditional color scheme for a Valentine's Day card and that's a-okay. For this quick card I used some scraps from the brand new Pinwheel collection, a heart punch, an arrow die-cut,  a few alpha stickers and I was finished. 

The little red polka-dotted alphabet stickers from the Christmas Cheer collection were just the right finishing touch for this card.

For my next card I used a more traditional Valentine's Day color palette, one of my favorite combinations right now: red, pink, blue and gray. 

This card was also quick and easy; I simply cut strips of patterned paper from the Persnickety collection 6x6 Tiny Tablet, punched out and layered a couple of hearts over the die cut and added a bit of twine.

Challenge Tuesday- Mixing the Old with the New

Good morning!

It's Becky Williams here with Nicole Nowosad today for another Challenge on Tuesday. 

To go along with our theme this week of mixing old and new products we have a fun challenge for you- create a project using at least 10 pieces of patterned paper mixing the old with the new. 

How does that sound? 

Nicole rose to the challenge beautifully!

Here is her layout:

Nicole said, "The new 6x6 tiny tablets make it really easy to get more than 10 papers on my page. I just cut each paper in half and used them as strips on my page, hiding the edges that lined up with photos, a journal card &/or a die cut tag. I love how all the new lines go together so easily and combine with the releases from last CHA as well!"

And now for my take on the challenge:

I also used strips of paper to add more variety to my page, only I did it on a smaller scale. I cut a piece of cardstock the same height as my photo and cut random widths of paper and adhered them to the cardstock. I added more patterns by using diecuts and smaller strips of paper at the top and bottom of the page. 

I cut the "I {heart} this" from one of the index journaling cards and layered a couple of the cards for my journaling. There are lots of ways that you can include 10+ pieces of patterned paper without adding a lot of extra bulk.

Focus on Monday | Mixing Old and New Products

Hello Lily Bee Fans.  Patricia here today to start our week of mixing old and new lines together.

I used up a lot of the new product I had on hand for CHA projects, so I got a little creative with the pieces I had leftover.  Here is what I came up with.

I wanted to mix some orange/red with yellow and turquoise, so I pulled out all the papers that coordinated well to go with the very energetic photo of my daugther.  As I was layering the photo on top of the bits and pieces from the Persnickety, Sweet Shoppe, and Destination papers, I thought it would be perfect to add more energy to that photo and overal design of the layout.

Using a leftover piece of paper cut into a sunburst, I masked and misted the background, then used a blending tool and dye ink (to coordinate with the mist color) to mask the stars and the arrow.  Stitched along the rays, then used my circle punch to cut these pieces of pattern paper from Destinations, and the Silhouette to cut the stars from Persnickety.

It's All About Love!

Hi everyone! Leslie here today with a big question. Are you ready for Valentine's day?
Love is definitely in the air! It's already displayed in stores & is all around.
To celebrate, we're sharing a whole lotta love here all week on the Lily Bee Design blog.

Today Nicole and I are sharing a couple of "love" layouts with all of you.

Nicole is up first with a layout of love about her oldest son:

"Along with some of my favorite photos of my oldest son, I wanted to use
some of my new and old Lilybee favorite products! I misted the Stationary paper
with some scraps from a Cameo cut and then let Pinwheel be my guide! I added in
a Lily Bee journaling card and some of those always perfect mini ABC stickers. I
couldn’t resist adding in a couple small piecharts from the 6x6 tiny tablet
too!"

to recreate the heart in the center, simply fold a 12x12 sheet of cardstock in half & cut in a
half heart shape. Open the fold to your heart. Then take strips of different patterned papers
and place diagonally (the strips don't have to be perfect sizes. I cut some thinner than others.)
on your heart, then trim the edges.

By making my photo stand out more - I turned it black and white and placed on the right side
of my heart by using 3D adhesive.  I wanted it to have a little more dimension.

I also used the letter stickers as part of my journaling along the left side of my heart

Cards on Wednesday - Full of Love

Do you have Valentine's Day on your mind?  There is something about a craft table spilling over with pink and red this time of year that put a smile on my face.  Today Leslie and I are sharing a few cards that embrace the theme of love.

First up, Leslie created two cards full of beautiful layers and a great way to use Lily Bee's cardstock stickers.

To create the heart embellishment she stacked punched hearts, folding and gluing each one down the center. Once they dried, she fanned them out to add dimension. Using the same color, yet different patterns, really sets off the effect.

Leslie's second card is just as amazing.  She loves hearts and finds ways to use them. For these “love” cards, she wanted to use hearts and colors you wouldn’t always see on a “Valentine” card.  So from little to big, red to multi-colored she incorporated hearts in such a creative way.

Supplies: Pinwheel (Cartwheels Paper, Lime Rickey Paper),  Persnickity (Clear Stamps, Index Journaling Cards, Mixed Stickers, 6x6 Tiny Tablet), Autumn Spice (ABC Stickers)

To create the heart shape on this card, simply freehand cut from paper and cover in strips of Lily Bee paper from a variety of collections.  As I was flipping through papers I pulled out paper that had pink in it.  Once the heart is stitched, I backed it with cardstock and hand cut a scallop border around it.  Inked the edges a bit to allow it to stand out and backed with foam adhesive.  Stamp a few pennants, hearts and doilies and assembled to create a banner using pink wire.

This card also features hand cut elements in creating the flower stem, leaves and petals.  By cutting circle shapes in a variety of sizes, fold each petal four times, ink each crease light to bring out each fold and adhere layers using foam adhesive and/or craft glue.  Use the same technique to create the leaves.

Focus on Monday -- Love Story

Happy Monday everyone!  Ursula here with you today.  This week, the design team is going to focus on the theme 'Love Story'.  I have to admit, I've always found Valentine's Day frustrating.  Here is why, when I was young I didn't have a 'love story'.  Or at least that is what I thought.

However, growing up helped me to realize that while I may or may not have my own personal love story to celebrate, there are bound to be some inspiring love stories in the lives of those around me that I can celebrate.

So this week, whether you are thinking of how to document your personal story or your love for family, their love for each other or treasured friendships, find a love story and make a big deal about it alongside Lily Bee Design.

I have been blessed for nearly 21 years with a wonderful love story.  There have been ups and downs but we always come back to committed love and I am so grateful for that.  

My page today is inspired by the ombre concept.  I created an ombre zigzag using lots and lots of punched hearts in graduated colors from pale pink to crimson red.  All it takes is some paper, a great punch and a bit of patience.

I also did something a little different this time in that I chose to print my photo on vellum to create an ethereal feel to the page, which serves to emphasize the feeling I have toward my husband.  I also layered a few vellum hearts over the regular ones to add layers and texture.

I took inspiration for my title from the song 'Love Story' by Taylor Swift.

Quilting Paper Technique | Tutorial

Good Morning! I love the Lily Bee patterned paper and wanted to show how easy it is to create a faux quilted background using pattern paper for a layout. 

I started with a piece of 12x12 Kraft card stock and then layered a block of slightly smaller white card stock on top. I cut out twenty-five 2x2 squares from the gray chevron striped paper. I placed these on top of the white card stock.

Then, I cut out thirteen 2x2 squares of the blue polka dot paper and cut them in half diagonally to create triangles. I used a repositionable glue stick to adhere them to the chevron blocks; I put the first triangle in the lower right hand corner of the first block and the next triangle went in the upper left hand corner of the next block.

This created a fun pattern across my background!

Finally, I stiched everything down with my sewing machine.

All that was then left to do was to place my photos and embellishments on top! I layered a couple of piece of paper from the Tiny Tablet and a piece of vellum underneath my photos. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out some arrows and part of my title. A few brads and veneer stars were sprinkled across and some journaling was typed up and voila!

Cards on Wednesday - Winter Wonderland

It is cold outside and you may be stacking on the layers and bundling up.  This week we are celebrating the chilly weather and taking it into our craft room to create projects for this winter wonderland.  Sharing with you today two cards layered with some of my favorite Lily Bee papers and stamps.

Why not create your own embellishment?  Here I used papers from Christmas Cheer to create a winter cap, topping it off with a little handmade thread pom-pom.  Stamped a few snowflakes to create a background for the card ontop of layered journal cards. 

The second card is taking layers of punched, stamped and die cuts and stitching them on the card as a banner.  Once it has been attached, gently fold each piece towards the stitching adding more dimension to the card.

Scraplift Challenge

Hello there! It's Becky and Melissa here with you today to share a new designer challenge. 

Do you ever feel like you are stuck in a rut with your scrapbooking? 

Have you ever felt like you didn't know how to scrapbook anymore? 

I have certainly been in both of those situations so I thought it would be fun to try something that is sure to cure your scrapbooking woes. 

If you are having a hard time coming up with a page design one thing you can do is scraplift a page that has inspired you- it could be something you created in the past or something by another scrapbooker. If you do scraplift someone else, make sure to always give proper credit and you could even contact the person to let them know what you've done. I bet they would enjoy seeing that their work inspired a page of your own!

For our challenge today Melissa and I scraplifted other members of the Lily Bee design team.

Melissa was inspired by this layout created by the amazing Nicole Nowosad:  

Melissa says, "I loved this layout by Nicole Nowosad! The only thing I really changed was instead of the patchworked look at the top part of the slant, I made it go straight across the upper portion of my layout. Thank you, Nicole, for the wonderful inspiration!"

Melissa said, " I had a hard time coming up with a layout for the 'Focus on Winter' theme this week. In Florida, we don't have the typical snoy, cold winter that other parts of the country have. I was looking through my photos trying to find something I could use and ran across these pictures of my dog, Lucy. It struck me that she always finds a patch of sunlight near the window during the winter and naps in it! She is such a silly girl!"

I had an easy time choosing a page to lift because I LOVED this layout that Cindy created for CHA using the new Pinwheel collection. I liked the horizontal strips of paper across the page, how she tucked her photos under the left edge, how she added embellishments randomly on the page.

I stayed pretty true to Cindy's design except that instead of using strips of the same width, I varied those and also overlapped the pieces at an angle instead of having them go straight across the page. I also placed my journaling at the bottom of the page and used randomly placed embellishments. 

Just as Cindy did, I brought some attention to the different strips of paper only I used twine instead of stitching and die-cut paper pieces. Thank you for your beautiful inspiration, Cindy!

Focus on Monday -- Winter

Since we're in the thick of Winter, we thought it'd be appropriate to focus this week on Winter.  All week, the Lily Bee Design team will be featuring projects to inspire you to make the most of this unique time of year.

Patricia and I (Ursula) are kicking off the week with a bit of a different spin on Winter.  While we live almost across the country from one another, we share a pretty similar climate. That is to say, a warmer one. We are both in the South.  I'm in the Southwest and Patricia is in the Southeast but in either case, truly cold temperatures are hard to come by.  So what does Winter look like for us???

Patricia says : If we ever get snow here in South Louisiana, the cities shut down and everyone grabs their cameras.  So I decided to make my own faux snow and fussy cut the doilies from the Prim pattern paper and splatter some white mist around on the denim Finicky paper.  Since our Winters are not the typical Wintery snowy white, but instead still full of color, I pulled in some red and aquas that went well with the photos from our Wintery season.

Here in Southern Arizona, I dream of snow, I pray for snow.  Heck, I'd be happy with just cold.  However, we only get snow in valley ever other year or so.  But this year, we did get a very chilly cold snap.  Temps dropped to below freezing five nights in a row and that is certainly cause for breaking out our hats and scarves!

I wanted to soften my background, a pattern from the Persnickety collection, so I overlayed a 12x12 sheet of vellum and sewed it down.  And in case you're wondering, Yes, we do take a picture every single time we wear winter gear, it could be years before it happens again and we feel so cute in it!

Initially, I was heading for an all black and white pallette, but my inner color monster came out and a bit of blue and red ended up taking over.

a Love Notes Mini

Good Friday morning!

Now that all the CHA excitement has passed, I'm so ready to dig into the new product even more. The new collections Kristen created are so wonderful. Love that she added an embellishment pack, new sets of stickers and chipboard accents!

I (Cindy L.) couldn't go without making a little mini album using bits and pieces from each brand new collection Sweet Shoppe, Destination & Pinwheel. I don't do a lot of altering, but every now and then I will create a little mini to keep or give as a gift. With Valentine's around the corner, I decided to alter the cover of a 4x4 mini album and the album will be used to document little loves notes and thoughts from each family member.

Supplies (Persnickety: Tiny Alphabet Stickers; Sweet Shoppe: Pattern Paper-Licorice Whip & Chit Chat Stickers; Destination: Pattern Paper-Bon Voyage; Pinwheel: Pattern Paper-Flip Flop + Cheery Blossom, Embellishment Bundle, Chipboard Stickers)

I layered the cover of the mini with vellum for a bit of softness against the bold zig-zag pattern that has been adhered to chipboard with sanded edges. I love how the bold design still pops behind the vellum.

bits of accent embellishments were used from punched hearts to chipboard accents to tiny alpha stickers.

the chipboard cover is simply embellished with word stickers and hand-cut bubble from pattern paper.

Falling Back to Project Life

Good morning, Lily Bee fans! Melissa here, and back sooner than I expected with another Project Life layout. I hadn't intended to post two so close together, but when another team member needed to swap days with me and had a Project Life slot to be taken over, I took the opportunity to get another week of my 2012 album done!

At the end of December I shared a bit of my laid-back approach to project life, so it's no surprise that I'm just now getting to election week in my album! I've actually scrapped a week or two after this one, but since I skip around a lot it seems that there are usually earlier weeks hanging around to complete. Since I like to be inspired by the supplies I want to use when I scrap a week, I let Lily Bee's Autumn Spice Tiny Tablet lead me to these photos full of fall colors!

 

I did mix some of the Persnickety collection in, as well, to bring a more "everyday" theme to these pages. The Mixed Cardstock stickers and Index Journaling cards were especially useful!

 

After seeing all the new Lily Bee collections unveiled this week, I'm excited by the possibilities for both traditional layouts and Project Life- especially by the new embellishments and label stickers!

 

Cards on Wednesday | New Year's Cards

If you didn't have a chance to send out holiday greetings yet, it's not too late! Today Summer and Lisa have some ideas for New Year's cards that would brighten anyone's mailbox.

Summer used a 6x6 Tiny Tablet for this card's papers. The smaller-scale patterns are ideal for cards! She used Silhouette images to cut the papers into fun, dynamic shapes that make this New Year's card bright and lively.

To reinforce the festive New Year's theme, there's nothing better than confetti! Lisa stitched a vellum overlay to her card that holds confetti punched from several Lily Bee papers. The confetti moves freely in the background, creating an interactive and fun-filled greeting.

Use Your Scraps | 1.8.2013

We are all so excited about the new releases coming soon.  CHA time is always so exciting.  

In the meantime, our challenge for you today is using your scraps.  I'm joined by three very talented ladies, Nicole, Becky, and Leslie.  Using your leftover scraps can push you creatively with using different colors and patterns that you wouldn't normally use together.  And those left over postive and negative cuttings find a perfect spot needed for a quick pop of color and texture.   

Our first inspiration is from Nicole.  Nicole says, "I literally broke out the little bits from my Lily Bee stash!  I used even the smallest pieces of paper that I have been hoarding to layer behind my photos.  If the paper was too small, I just trimmed it down the middle and tucked it behind the photos on the two outer edges, to give the impression of a larger piece of paper."

Next is Becky. Becky says, "I had so much fun with this page!  When I found out what the challenge was, I pulled out all of my scraps, including ones I'd used to make punched shapes for previous projects.  These pieces of paper usually sit around until I throw them away, so it was fun to put them to use on this layout.  Along with the punch shape scraps, I trimmed some pieces from the Christmas Cheer Figgy Pudding paper and added some diecuts I'd cut out but hadn't yet used, and I really like the end result."

Next is Leslie.  She says, "I used up every little piece of leftovers I had from projects of every line. I even had some left over hearts from a previous project that I was able to add for a finishing touch."

I absolutely love what Nicole, Becky, and Leslie have created.  Each so different and unique.  Thank you for joining me ladies!

And here is my layout.  I grabbed a handful of scraps. The denim piece from Persnickety (Finicky) was big enough I could send through the Silhouette.  My design came out asymmetrical, which made it quick to put together.  I used the corner rounder punch on some pieces to add interest to the design.  I also used a tab punch, and a 1" circle punch to some of pieces to add pops of color.  The butterfly, flower, and branch were leftover cuttings from another project.  The polaroid stamped paper was another leftover.  One of my favorite layouts.  I love how these pieces came together.
